For the first time this work of L. Caravac was exhibited in 1870 at the exhibition of Russian portraits in Petersburg as “Portrait of Peter III in Early Youth”. At the exhibition “Lomonosov and Elizabethan time” the canvas was attributed as “Portrait of Peter II” by L. Caravac.
Meanwhile, this product of L. Caravac is strikingly similar to the “Portrait of Elizabeth Petrovna in the men’s suit” RMM) attributed to him. The similarity is not limited only to the similarity of costumes – most importantly, strikingly similar faces. Also, perhaps the picture depicts one of the sons of Caravac – John.
