The full name of this painting is “The Verbal Account. In the People’s School of SA Rachinsky”, Nikolai Bogdanov-Belsky wrote it in 1895.
The painting depicts the class of a rural school, a lesson in arithmetic. The teacher asked the children an interesting and complex example, which they solve by the whole class. Children are engaged in deep thought, someone is tensely thinking aside, someone is communicating with the teacher. It is evident that the guys are very interested in solving this riddle, they want to prove to the teacher and themselves that they can do it.
Next to the children is a teacher, whose image was written by a professor at the Moscow University, the famous botanist and mathematician Rachinsky.
The artist described a simple rural class – on children simple shirts, pants and bast shoes. The artist very well conveyed the desire for knowledge in the poses and eyes of children.
Warm colors of the picture convey a positive mood, childlike sincerity, unity for the sake of the common cause.
