In July 1890, Van Gogh briefly came to Paris to visit his brother. There he meets art critic and critic Albert Orie. Peru of this author owned a rather positive article about the picturesque work of Van Gogh exhibited in Brussels. At that time, it was not the only good opinion about the artist’s work.
In particular, the public took a very positive view of the paintings exhibited at the “Salon of Independent” in Paris. We can say that Van Gogh’s talent began to gradually receive a well-deserved recognition, but Vincent himself was not happy. He did not let go of the idea that as an artist he did not take place. Soon he hurriedly returned to Over where he painted the picture “Landscape from the Chateau Over at sunset”, where these joyless thoughts were reflected.
On the canvas of the unusually extended format, Van Gogh depicted a path through the grain fields, and two pear trees. In the distance you can see a small house and a castle, drowning in the dark foliage of trees. The sun is rolling towards the horizon, and the sky is painted in hot tones of yellow and orange. Sunset does not make the landscape more beautiful.
On the contrary, all objects become dark, poorly recognizable and lose shape, which creates a sense of lack of harmony and coziness. The branches of the trees grow thin with curls, and the road seems hot due to a combination of inappropriately flaming shades.
