Hunting by Annibale Carracci

Hunting by Annibale Carracci

Annibale Carracci, inspired by the works of the High Renaissance, in his works tried to achieve the purity and harmony of the painting of this period, lost in the art of Mannerism.

Together with his brothers, the artist created the Academy in Bologna, where he taught, laying the foundations of academic art. He wrote compositions on religious and mythological subjects, as well as landscapes that were ignored by Mannerist artists. Hunting is a series of genre scenes combined with a plot, against a backdrop of beautiful scenery.

To the left, the hunter in red carries a fresh carcass of the killed animal on the stick, in the lower right corner of the picture the characters are engaged in the necessary preparations, just below on the hillside the young man, looking afar, points at something, lowerly slowly riding the horses and talking two more slowly the character of the canvas, and in the background in the valley there is a real hunt with rushing dogs and riders.
