Dinner at Emmaus by Paolo Veronese

Dinner at Emmaus by Paolo Veronese

Veronese often wrote New Testament meals, especially attracted to his most notable of them – the Last Supper. In the early works of the artist, the Savior’s meals turned into lavish feasts.

The Master could not resist the temptation to surround Jesus and His disciples with patrician luxury. The most “modest” of the works of this period is “Dinner at Emmaus,” although here Veronese also dresses gospel heroes in expensive “fashionable” fees. Completely differently constructed “The Last Supper”, made by Veronese around 1585, it is painted in dark colors and is characterized by restraint in details.
