A joyful, life-affirming picture, written based on the work of Long – “Daphnis and Chloe.” The action takes place in a village on the Greek island of Lesbos in the Aegean Sea. There were two shepherds, one goat, the other a sheep, one a slave, the other free. Once, he saw how his goat feeds the abandoned child – a boy, and with it a purple diaper, a gold clasp and a knife with an ivory handle. Kozhash adopted a boy and named him Daphnis. A little time passed, and the sheep breeder also saw his sheep feeding the abandoned child – a girl, and with her bandage sewn with gold, gilded shoes and gold bracelets.
She adopted her sheep and named Chloe. As time passed, both the foundling grew up together. Daphne is already 15 years old, and Chloe is 13, and both have become extraordinary handsome. He grazed goats, she – sheep. They were friends, they frolicked everywhere and always together. One summer, Daphneus had a misfortune: he stumbled, fell into a wolf’s pit and almost died. Chloe and his neighbor dragged him out of the pit, and then the girl led Daphnis to the creek to wash herself. And then for the first time Chloe saw how Daphnis is handsome, and felt a previously unintelligible excitement – the first excitement of love. The neighbor argued with Daphne, which of them is more beautiful and asked Chloe to resolve their dispute. Chloe came over and kissed Daphnis, who she liked best. And after this kiss, Daphnis also felt the first excitement of love.
Autumn came. Grapes have come. Daphnis and Chloe still had fun together. And then the shepherd told them that the world is ruled by the god of love of Eros, and it is impossible to escape from his spell. Then Daphnis and Chloe understood the cause of their excitement, and now they began to hug, kiss, but did not go further. The following summer, the bridegrooms started bidding for Chloe. Daphnis in the mountain, because he was poor. But one day he found a rich treasure and adopted parents decided to marry young lovers. Suddenly, on the things that were with the abandoned children, they had real parents, besides, both were rich. A wedding was held. “And then Chloe realized that everything they were doing with Daphnis in the grove, there were only jokes of shepherds.” Daphnis and Chloe lived happily ever after, and their children were fed by goats and sheep.
