Breakfast by Francois Boucher

Already in 1749 the picture was presented in the catalog of Gersen, as a work with a gallant plot. In 1759, it appears on the market again – in the Prousto catalog. Then, after changing several owners, gets to the collection of Dr. Achilles Malko, who passes it to the Louvre. It is possible that in it Bush tried to imagine the ideal image of his family, having painted himself, his wife, two daughters and a nanny at breakfast.

An interesting episode of the life of a wealthy citizen’s family is also noteworthy in that we learn from him what clothes and furniture were in use in France in the first half of the eighteenth century. The walls of the room are decorated with wooden panels. In the center of the wall is a large mirror, above which hangs a landscape in an oval frame. On the shelf is a small Buddha, indicating a large spread of fashion for Chinese art objects.
