
On the advice of doctors in 1849 Bryullov leaves for the island of Madeira, where he stayed for about a year. Here, among a small colony of Russian artists, he met with a beautiful couple Mussar. Evgeni Ivanovich Mussar was the secretary of the Duke of Maximilian Lichtenberg and his wife Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna.
The artist undertook to write a portrait of the couple Mussars. Portrait of a horse, front. Bryullov was very fond of writing such portraits. And although it is a watercolor, the artist masterfully managed to convey the texture of clothes and the beauty of accessories. But their splendor does not stop to admire the beautiful Mussar couple for a walk and the article of their magnificent horses.
