There are a lot of drawings of Tiepolo. Most of them are sketches for his future paintings – for example, “The truncation of the head of St. Peter.” However, from time to time the artist referred to the drawing as an independent genre or created drawings that were to become the basis for engravings.
Before us came the drawings made by the artist in his youth, including drawings of nude nature – such as “A man lying on the ground.” Most often Tiepolo drew a pen and brown ink – it was in this technique created the sketch “The House and the Tower,” 1760. Sometimes the artist used black and red chalk, and sometimes – mixed technique. Figures Tiepolo differ lightness, liveliness and subtle contrasts of light and shadow.
