Woman in the Garden by Vincent Van Gogh

The painting “Woman in the Garden” was written in 1887 in Paris. It reflected Van Gogh’s fascination with Impressionist ideas. All the attention of the artist is focused on the transfer of a momentary impression of what he saw. A walking woman, as if by chance, casts a glance at the author drawing in the corner of the garden. Suddenly caught the moment immediately reflected on the canvas, where the brightness of the impressions is transmitted through the intensity of colorful combinations.

The whole distant plan is written in bright shades of blue flowers. This distances him from the viewer and gives the picture a shade of dreaminess. Against the background of this bright blue, the figure of a woman stands out. Her white dress is written with the help of a variety of shades of pastel colors, and dynamic thin strokes make the figure light, despite some heaviness of shapes.

The facial features are strongly generalized, but this does not deprive the image of expressiveness. Van Gogh in some elusive manner managed to convey the good-natured mood of the heroine, with interest turned her head towards the artist and gently carrying in her hand a colorful bouquet.

Dynamism of the figure creates a strong contrast with the overall composition of the landscape. The space is limited by a wall of trees in the background and two young trees on both sides. But such closeness does not create negative feelings, but, on the contrary, forms a small cozy space, which allows you to focus all the attention of the viewer on the image of the heroine.
