From the Weymouth Bay you can see the west – a small river Jordan, flowing through the desert sandy terrain, and the same mountain. In October 1816, the Constable couple spent their honeymoon in Osmington, near Weymouth.
Probably, by this time the idea to write a view of the Bay in Weymouth, to which Constable subsequently addressed repeatedly, depicting the same terrain under different weather conditions. The artist was interested in the change in nature and its perception under different conditions of the atmosphere.
Unlike Turner, Constable finds his landscapes in everyday life. Very free in the picturesque language, they are always populated by people, or in them there is some object that indicates the presence of a person. Even if the figures are tiny, depicted in the background – as in this picture.
