This is a wonderful canvas – a kind of historical chronicle. Thanks to the scrupulous accuracy of the image, we can accurately judge what Westminster Abbey looked like in this time period, and also make a complete impression of the splendor of the knightly procession, accompanied by the higher clergy of the Anglican Church.
The first thing that catches the eye of a person looking at this picture is an image of the building of the abbey that was made with the accuracy of the drawing. Buildings are depicted in simple photographic detail, everything is done with the smallest details – from harmonious proportions of structures to lacy stone finishes.
The procession that moves in front of the viewer along a smooth arc is depicted already retreating into the distance, we see already the last of its participants. The pure white color of the orders of the clergy and their scarlet raincoats – the brightest colors in the picture, which is mostly executed in a low-key, almost monochrome palette.
