
The watermill is not such a frequent motive in Dutch painting as windmill. However, the main mill in this picture is water. In all details, Reisdal portrays a dam, the mill foundation that had been folded for centuries, the roof, which it was time to patch up.
The second windmill is visible in the distance, in the background, and it is not so easy to notice right away.
