The Theater Bed was the main exhibit of Auguste Renoir at the first Impressionist exhibition held in Paris in 1874.
The complex theme and virtuoso performance in terms of techniques, made a deep impression, and made Renoir one of the leaders of this radically new movement in the art of France. For this ambitious picture, the brother of the artist Edmond Renoir and the model Nini Lopez of Monmarth, known as “Fish Face”, posed.
