The Seven Ecumenical Councils with the Creation and the Council of the Twelve Apostles

Composition of four registers. In the center of the upper one depicts the Fatherland in the Forces, on the sides of which are six days of Creation. In the second, from the register -1, II and III Ecumenical Councils, in the third – IV, V and VI Ecumenical Councils. In the center of the lower register is the VII Ecumenical Council, on the sides of it – six apostles.

The compositions of the Councils, except for the last, the Seventh, are constructed in the same way: on a stepped elevation, in front of the temple, the emperor sits, to whom holy hierarchs are coming, and also depicts the main act of each cathedral. In the composition of the VII cathedral on the throne – the emperor and the empress, with the upcoming holy Fathers and other present.

The icon is a monument of Palekh painting of the second half of the XIX century. It represents iconographic interest, it has artistic significance.
