Purely landscape images are typical for the Indian cycle. In the sketch “The Himalayas in the Evening” Vereshchagin conveys the sensation of two worlds that struck him, which later in his own way will excite Nicholas Roerich, – the blue twilight of the night that is approaching the highlands and the “superfluous structure” of powerful and majestic peaks illuminated by the sun.
