Several creative failures of the “post-Parisian” period did not stop the search for a harmonious world, which Borisov-Musatov identified with the past epoch, and “was introduced” into the present, through pictorial techniques.
In the sign for the artist in 1898, work began on the painting “Spring”, a work that marked a new stage in his work, in which the narrative finally disappears, the canvases become decorative, and the theme of the woman favored by Musatov is revealed conceptually with new solutions. The female image becomes generalized, more significant, and at the same time incomprehensibly mysterious.
The harmony sought by the artist is finally achieved, and she captures the viewer from the first seconds of viewing the picture.
