Immediately after the appearance of this work at the exhibition, it was recognized as a classic of Soviet painting. The official Soviet criticism noted that the still-life corresponded to the tasks of painting social realism: indeed, there is famine in the country, but in art there is an amazing abundance!
Nevertheless, an outstanding artistic gift of the artist was manifested in this work: dynamic composition, richness of color – all these features were inherent in the artists of the “Jack of Diamonds”.
