Self Portrait by Titian

Titian was a very famous during his lifetime. For a time he was considered the official artist of the country, ordered the nobles had their portraits, he was so well-handled brush and paints, that after the death of his teacher was able to finish those pictures, which he did not have time.

Throughout his life, his every canvas Titian glorified the everyday world. His beauty that lies in the details. His small joys that are not everyone’s strength to see. His subtle irony, which can be considered in a chain of events, and everyday happiness of existence, which people often curtain curtains in your own head and hide from themselves, something that does not exist.

All his life he worked hard, bringing peace to the canvas, and a self-portrait he had the time, only when he was an old man, and his death was no longer in sight. Portrait of a rather strange and not very characteristic of Titian. It is very dark – brown background merges with the black clothes of the artist, and are visible only to really open his hands and face.

Titian depicts himself as realistically as possible, without trying to sugarcoat anything. Streaking his face wrinkles, nose hanging over his lips, sunken eyes, look strictly and carefully. Beard neatly trimmed, hair hidden under a black hat is, and skin is the color of an old tree, a little yellowish tint, peculiar and ancient parchments.

The artist’s face no particular emotion. He is depicted in profile, looks past the viewer, somewhere beyond the edge of the picture. He was not glad or sad – he is calm and his gaze expresses calmness and composure. As if he had a premonition of the future death, and it is ready for it. Life is good, but for a man wise enough to death – it is only a step towards the unknown and the new amazing adventure
