Painting of Lucas Cranach the Elder “Repentance of Saint Jerome” was created in 1502-1503. Size 56 x 42 cm, wood, oil. The painting refers to the artist’s early works. Actually, the artist’s youthful works are not preserved.
In the earliest of the surviving works, primarily in engravings, it is possible to note the signs of Cranach’s connection with the Late Gothic traditions. They do not yet have the correct perspective construction, they are overloaded with details, there are elements of mysticism in the images; The drawing itself seems composed of intricate curly lines.
