The birthplace of Korin – the village of Palekh of the Vladimir region – is the ancient center of Russian art crafts. great-grandfather – grandfather and father of Korin were icon painters. Iconography was taught in his youth by local masters Pavel Korin. As a sixteen-year-old boy, he came to Moscow to work in the icon-painting chamber of the Don monastery.
The further fate of Korin was greatly influenced by his acquaintance with MV Nesterov, who generously shared his knowledge and experience with young artists and for many years became his close friend. On the advice of Nesterov, Korin entered the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, where his mentor was SV Malyutin and KA Korovin. October Revolution Korin welcomed enthusiastically. He believed that the victory of the insurgent people meant the victory of the heroic beginning in art.
A severe and beautiful revolutionary era, according to him, was supposed to correspond to the works of tremendous emotional strength and power of revolutionary content, courageous, pathetic and passionate. The main thing for his work he considered creating an image of a contemporary. “The artist’s task and the artist’s difficulty is to show not the accidental and the particular, but the essence, meaning, leading tendencies of life, time,” Korin wrote in one of his articles. Masters attracted strong, integral characters, the hard destinies of courageous people, fighters and ideas, creators, thinkers. It was such a courageous and uncompromising, spiritually rich and generously giving people his talent, he saw a modern man.
The heroes of Korin’s portraits are artists, writers, artists, musicians. The portrait of Renato Guttuso is one of Corin’s later works. In Guttuso, he saw, first of all, a talented artist, a thoughtful, serious man. People called Korin “aristocrats of the spirit”. The main attention in the portrait is drawn to the face and hands of the model. Expressiveness of the image contributes to a clear line drawing, careful selection of necessary interior details, a dense vigorous smear. In the unusual color of Korin, the color of the portrait, the abundance of the sun, the thoroughness of the transfer of each object was reflected in the master’s desire to emphasize his love for the nature of Italy, respect for the talented painter.
