Portraits, painted by Rosalba Carriera, carry in themselves all the features of Venetian painting with its subtle color, light and air. The artist is one of the representatives of the Rococo style, the distinctive feature of which is bright, translucent tones and playful subjects.
Actually, all the Venetian painting of the XVIII century was close in its structure to rococo. In it, as in this light art, much from the carnival: after Venice ceased to play one of the leading roles in the political theater of Europe, it itself increasingly turned into a theater, into a ghost town, where the masquerade began to look like a natural pastime.
The girl in the picture, dressed in a Turkish outfit and with a mask in her hand, is part of this carnival. Pearl, pink, blue – one of the favorite colors of the masters of rococo. The bending of the body of the model, the rotation of its head, the sideways view are also typically rocaille.
