Traditional in its composition and paraphernalia, the ceremonial imperial portrait is growing. But his attribution is very interesting. The canvas was bought in 1882 by PM Tretyakov as a work of TV Borovikovsky – on the pillow a false signature: “wrote Borovikovsky.”
For a long time, the portrait was attributed to F. S. Rokotov and even exhibited at his personal exhibition in 1923. And only after almost forty years TV Alekseeva convincingly proved the authorship of PS Drozhzhin.
