Painting of the French painter Jacques Louis David “Pierre Serizia”. The size of the portrait is 55 x 46 cm, canvas, oil.
Jacin Louis David’s brother-in-law, Pierre Serizia, was a judge, and this portrait was written shortly after his marriage to the artist’s sister in 1790. The brightest of the painters of classicism, David is perhaps best known for his paintings that glorify the themes of civil dignity and freedom, and canvases describing events during the reign of Emperor Napoleon I.
However, even this humble portrait, with its simplified composition and palette, demonstrates how artists of the late 18th century rejected the frivolity and excesses of rococo style of King Louis XV and sought a classical ideal.
