Orchard in Pontoise. Spring by Camille Pissarro

Upon returning to Paris, Pissarro still lives in poverty, the republic that replaced the empire did not change anything in the life of France, and the sad events related to the war, confiscation and the Commune deprived the bourgeois of the opportunity to buy paintings.

At this time, C. Pissarro takes under his patronage a young artist from Aix-en-Provence P. Cezanne, and they work together in Pontoise. He shares his experience in working with color with the young artist, which, according to C. Pissarro, was a unique visual tool: with his help, it was possible not only to convey the material essence of the subject, but also its form.

Placed near light strokes of pure color begin to surprisingly interact with each other, giving rise to a vibrant tonal range, and applied crosswise in parallel diagonals, they create a sense of depth and give the picture a certain rhythm.
