Engraving “Nemesis” embodies a certain philosophical design, undoubtedly associated with the events of those days; the figure of a woman very far from the classical ideal, with strongly developed powerful muscles and a large belly that gave birth to a mother, was transformed into a monumental image of the winged Goddess of Destiny hovering over Germany.
The majesty of this figure standing on the sphere with huge wings stretched out over her shoulders, looming on the bright background of the cloudless sky, contrasts with the petty fragmentation of the landscape, as if strewn with houses, trees and rocks.
In one hand, a woman holds a precious gold phial, in the other she wears a harness harness: objects that hint at the difference in the fate of people of different classes. It is characteristic that in ancient Greek mythology Nemesis was the goddess of revenge.
The duties of the goddess included punishment for crimes, monitoring the fair and equitable distribution of benefits among mortals. In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Nemesis was considered to be the performer of fate.
