
After receiving the 10 commandments from God, Moses twice ascended to Mount Sinai, staying there for 40 days, and saw God face to face. During his first absence, the people terribly sinned: he made the Golden Calf, before which the Israelites began to serve and have fun. Moses destroyed the calf in anger.
