One of the best paintings of the mature period of the painter’s work is also known under the names “Lust-loving” or “Sensuality”, it is a pair painting for Pompeo Batoni’s work “Mercury crowning Philosophy, Mother of Arts”.

In the Hermitage, Batoni’s painting “Sweetness” came from the collection of the most brilliant prince, Russian statesman, Chancellor Alexander Andreevich Bezborodko. Since 1775 Bezborodko was the secretary of Empress Catherine II, since 1783 the actual head of Russian foreign policy.
