Lodging house by Vladimir Makovsky

Makovsky’s paintings can be attributed to the art of the Wanderers. His works are peculiar manifestation of care and understanding, joy and emotions of the “little man”. Some of his paintings can be attributed to the struggle of the rich and the poor; it is in this contrast that he receives his works. The author loves to denounce human injustice. The painting “Night shelter” was written in 1889, it is dedicated to the theme of the humiliated and insulted.

In the picture we see people, unhappy people who have no shelter wandering down the city street in search of an overnight stay, at least for one night. We see a queue of people, they lined up with the desire to spend the night in the warmth. Many who remained behind their backs continue to crowd. In Makovsky, in my opinion, it’s excellent, it turns out, to show the character of human souls. Each person depicted in the picture, has its own soul and its own destiny, with its special principles capable of experiencing the trials that subjected their lives.

Particular attention is attracted by the figure depicted by the old man in the center of the canvas. This old man allows you to light another deprived wanderer; the old man is wearing torn and tattered clothes that do not warm the old man. From under his ragged shoes visible bare legs. According to historians, the depicted old man is the artist Savrasov. The last years of his life Savrasov spent in poverty, wandering in search of an overnight stay, having rare orders. Makovsky accurately depicts wounded souls of people.

Despite the entire tragedy of the situation depicted, it remains true to its last moment in its harsh realism. I really liked this picture, it made me think about the events of the past, plunging them through painting.
