Meindert Hobbema, a Dutch master of landscape painting, perceived nature as the medium of human existence. His landscapes are always lived in, they always meet different buildings, houses, mills, roads, man-made roads, or people themselves, busy with their daily affairs.
Quiet, peaceful life of man in the bosom of nature – such is the ideal of the Dutch artist. Hobbema did not write the wild, striking force of the elements and romantic drama not mastered and not subjugated by people nature.
