Foxes by Franz Marc

Foxes by Franz Marc

Franz Marc is a very interesting German expressionist artist, the author of many unusual works, sometimes striking his contemporaries. It is noteworthy that the years of studying at the university were almost in vain for him, because naturalism, which was emphasized in teaching, was completely uninteresting to him, even alien to some degree. Leaving his studies, he goes to Paris, where he very closely begins to study the works of Van Gogh, Cezanne, Gauguin and other post-impressionists. A few years later, the artist wrote a number of works in his new abstract style.

Franz’s painting “Foxes” in the original manner inherent in this artist depicts these beautiful shy animals. The image looks like stained glass, the artist used a play of red, green, blue colors to enhance this effect.

Color chaos, however, has its own laws, in its center you can guess the images of foxes. Color has a huge symbolic meaning for the artist: a certain game or danger threatening animals is made in red colors, Franz also used yellow and green colors.

Under the green color, the forest in which the characters live in the picture is guessed, and yellow or orange symbolizes the color of fox fur. The spectator as if by chance becomes a witness of a certain episode from the life of these hidden forest animals.
