The theme of social contradictions was one of the most important in the work of NA Yaroshenko. Among the genre works of the artist the most famous was the painting “Everywhere Life”. The work is written under the impression of Leo Tolstoy’s story “What are people alive?”, And its original name was “Where love is there and God.”
The canvas depicts prisoners of a convict car watching pigeons. The author, choosing such a simple and uncomplicated plot, emphasizes the injustice of real life: how can people with such persons, full of warmth and good nature, be criminals? They are much more humane than many who remained on the other side of the car on freedom.
It is no coincidence that the central group of characters resembles the Holy Family, it can guess the evangelical characters: the Madonna with the baby, the three wise men with gifts in the form of bread crumbs and the symbolic designation of God the Father – the pigeon. Yaroshenko seemed to have stopped a moment of bitter life of a simple but oppressed people, imprisoned in a dirty, shabby green car, where it was dark and damp. Everywhere life, she is everywhere, she is shining in the other window of the car, through which the light of a summer day is pouring, but she is deprived of these poor common people who are imprisoned. “How much she says to her heart,” – said about the picture of Leo Tolstoy.
