In his painting “View of the neighborhoods of Kharkov” AA Kiselev depicts the countryside, located near the city. If you look closely, the picture seems to be divided in half: the lower part is occupied by people, at home, and the upper sky.
In the center of the work we see a small boardwalk, with a big goal in the middle. On the road leading to it, a woman-peasant woman is sent. In her hands, she carries many branches and dried leaves. Probably, she will need it to kindle the furnace. Near the woman lie large felled tables of perennial trees. In the direction to which it is directed, a small meadow with a small drying river is visible. Near the river graze cows.
The picture depicts a hot summer day, so the two cows came to the water in order to quench their thirst. On the river bank there is a woman washing clothes. On the same bank of the river is a large high hill, on the slope of which near the earthen path grow various flowers and shrubs. On the hill there are neatly white Ukrainian huts with thatched roofs in the ridge.
In the distance, you can see the fields and there are fuzzy outlines of the city. Now the middle of the day, and the sun is very hot, leaving only a part of the hill in the shade. There are not a single cloud in the sky, only white light clouds. The author, thanks to a special application of colors, very skillfully portrayed their weightlessness. All the details of the picture are very clearly marked out by the artist. The viewer has a feeling that he really is in the vicinity of Kharkov, watching the villagers live.
