Etude “Girl on the Threshold” refers to the early period of creativity Konstantin Korovin. As in a number of landscape etudes of the 1890s, a female figure was introduced into the composition of the canvas, as if dissolved in the landscape. Light, falling into the room from the garden, envelops the model, dissolves the clear lines, surrounds it with a mysterious radiance.

In contrast lighting, even the colors become shaky, flowing one into the other. The trembling of the air and the unsteady lighting, however, do not hide her smiling face, on which the blue eyes shine. The artist was clearly impressed by the Russian national type of female beauty embodied in the model. Lira and the flowers in her hands are perceived as a hint of a certain secret of the soul.

Performed in a bright joyful range of subtly nuanced tones, the etude is imbued with a joyful, full-blooded sensation of being. He does not impress the study, sketches, sketches for memory, on which a new work will be created. Such incompleteness was a characteristic phenomenon for impressionism in general. Having seized the moment that astonished him, KA Korovin created a completely finished work.
