By controlling the father’s chariot, Phaeton could not hold back the fire-breathing horses, which, having come close to the ground, almost burnt her; to prevent a catastrophe, Zeus struck Phaethon with a thunderbolt, and the son of the sun god Helios, blazing, fell into the river.
