The majestic and solemn image of the Savior was supposedly written for the St. John the Evangelist Church in Yaroslavl. The artist seemed to be trying not to leave an empty seat on the board. Christ is surrounded by kneeling female figures, in one of which one can recognize a weeping sinner who anointed the feet of Jesus with the world and wiped them with her hair in the house of the Pharisee, as described in the Gospel of Luke.
At his head are angels with instruments of “passions”. In numerous hallmarks – intricate and elegant, executed in the artist’s favorite range of red and green tones – a detailed story about the life and work of the Savior. A huge throne and foot – a truly beautiful specimen of artful ornamental painting in gold.
