Portrait of Bunuel by Salvador Dali

Portrait of Bunuel by Salvador Dali

Dali met Luis Buñuel in the Academy of Arts, where he studied from 1922 to 1926 and from where, in the future, was expelled. Bunuel was one of the friends of intellectuals who had a strong influence on Dali; among them was Federico Garcia Lorca, a poet and playwright, who was intended to reproduce here a self-portrait.

“Portrait of Buñuel” was created when the model was 25 years old. He looks very serious, immersed in his thoughts, a man who is staring at the distance, not at the viewer. The palette of the portrait is limited, it consists of several gloomy colors. Such a coloristic solution allows you to emphasize facial expressions, helping to create a serious atmosphere.
