Portrait of a man with a palm branch by Titian Vecellio

This later, born in 1561, the portrait depicts Antonio Palma, nephew of Palma or Vecchio. A box of paints on the windowsill indicates a profession, a palm branch in the hand, usually a sign of martyrdom, in the name of the person pictured. The painting is a magnificent example of the mature portrait art of Titian, the character and posture depicted are consonant with his worldview.

Such works as this Titian gave a model for European portrait painting, valid until the end of the 17th century and then re-acquired its relevance in the late 19th century. The painting is written widely and freely, with a deep and juicy consonance of colors, with a beautiful landscape on the left, like Barbizon’s school.
