In Hamburg, Marche lived in the winter of 1909. In 1910, thirteen species of the Hamburg port of Marche were displayed at an exhibition in the Druhe Gallery.
The painting depicts the northern arm of the Elbe. In the background there is a pink strip of storage facilities along the customs canal, in the center there are spiers of the cathedrals of St. Catherine and St. Michael.
