All the work of the Czech artist Alphonse Mucha permeated the theme of the image of women. He skillfully transformed the beautiful half of humanity into either the image of the night, the spring, the flower, etc. The artist turned to the theme of God in the cycle “Our Father” and there he did not change his style. He portrays the tragic translucent girls in the paintings. His paintings are mystically-inspired, evoke thoughts about the purpose of man on earth. The artist created his collection of mystical and poetic discourses about God, in which he sought to convey the relationship between man and God, the complexity of these relationships.
Pictures make you think about the eternal. In the book Our Father, each of the seven lines of the Lord’s prayer is represented by two colored lithographs. The chapter consists of three pages, one of which is the text of the prayer. God in the book is not a good or angry father – he is a mysterious Being, filling the earth with his shadow. Light giant youth is the embodiment of all the forces of nature. The image of a woman is represented by Love descending to earth. All prayers and illustrations depart from Christian teachings; rather, they go back to the direction of neo-Platonic spiritualism.
All illustrations are imbued with the theme of human desire for divine insight. The composition of the painting “Our Father. A. Piazza and Co, Paris” consists of three circles located in each other. In the very central circle there is the inscription “Amen”, in the second circle there is a man, the embodiment of God the Father, who holds a protective cover over humanity and blesses him. The third circle is richly decorated with flowers. The whole illustration is outlined with a linear ornament. The artist in the cycle “Our Father” shows how it is possible to portray a serious topic about human existence, it would seem, in a completely unattended for this light, beautiful art-nouveau style. This is the skill of the artist.
