“Nativity of Our Lady” belongs to the number of masterpieces of the late iconography. The author of the icon probably knew the heritage of the royal masters of the 17th century, which was preserved in numerous home chapels. The icon painter demonstrates amazing skill in building architectural fantasies, freely varying their elements.
In the icon are subtly connected different and differentdifferent episodes of the Virgin cycle. Praying Joachim and Anna, depicted on the edges of the icon and separated from each other by city towers, touchingly merge together at the Golden Gate. The latter in the interpretation of the paleshanin appear in the form of an intricate pergola-kivoria with purple embroidered gold draperies.
In the scenes of Christmas and Caressing the Infant, the icon painter beats household details, giving the icon special warmth and intimacy. The fields depict the Monks Ignatius and Pachomius the Great. The icon is decorated with a silver salary, exactly repeating the composition of the icon.
