This fresco adorned the cell No. 7 of the San Marco Monastery. The central figure of Christ is given here sitting in a strictly frontal position against the background of a rectangular curtain. The whole scene is extremely symbolic, it uses a whole set of emblem symbols.
Appeal to the symbolism, perhaps, was dictated by the desire of Fra Angelico to depart from the narrative characteristic of the traditional interpretation of this story.
In this late work, the artist is a great master of form, which he conveys with rare confidence and perfection – this statement refers primarily to the white robes of Christ and the figures of the Virgin and St. Dominic, sitting on a low step in deep thought.
