The customer of the monumental painting was the school of St. John the Evangelist, one of the Venetian religious brotherhoods.
Vittore Carpaccio, along with Gentile Bellini and other Venetian painters, was involved in creating a series of paintings and paintings “The History of the Relic” in the Doge’s Palace, glorifying the Venetian Republic.
