Speaking about the landscapes of Ruysdael, one cannot pass over the silence of his “famous sky”. Clouded in clouds, flashing with the rays of a dim sun, it dominates in all his works.
Sometimes there is a feeling that the artist painted landscapes only for the sake of the sky. Almost every time it takes at least half of the canvas, and sometimes it seems that the author is much more interested in what happens there, among these clouds, than what happens under them.
The sky of Reysdal is not an ephemeral substance. It is tangible, real, detailed. Birds live in it. From it is going to rain, which gives the field water, fill the river.
