While working on floral still lifes that brought him fame and well-being, Redon saw his main task in “engaging nature and imagination.” He considered classic still life a dead genre and sought to revive it with the help of fantasy.
Critics soon noticed the fantastic nature of Redon’s still lifes. One of them wrote: “They seem to Redon dream creatures, inspired by Oriental legends.”
The flowers in the “Bouquet of Flowers” are completely “blurred” throughout the entire space of the picture like a light, bright cloud. Both still lifes were created in the early years of the 20th century.
