Eugene Manet with her daughter in Bougival by Berthe Morisot

November 14, 1878, Bertha Morisot and her spouse Eugene Manet had a daughter, Julie. According to Berta herself, the role of the mother was given to her hard, leaving less time for creativity. Nevertheless, she always found the opportunity to draw. Throughout 1881, the family spent in Bougival, in a house near which was a large garden. Bertha loved her very much. “Eugene Manet with his daughter in Bougival” is one of the works of that happy period.

The painting clearly outlines its own style of the artist, her canvases become relaxed and natural. Morisot often left whole sections unfinished, for which she was mercilessly criticized, but she did not attach the slightest importance to these comments. On the canvas “Eugene Manet with his daughter in Bougival” the vigor of the brush strokes reached a climax. This is especially noticeable in the image of clothing spouse. However, the main character here is not he, but the daughter sitting next to him.

Being a patient child, Julie often posed for artists. The girl is depicted in the sketch “Julie Manet, sitting on the watering can” of her uncle Edouard Manet, several portraits with her participation are written by Auguste Renoir. For Berta herself, her daughter became not only a model, but also a source of inspiration. As the Impressionist biographer Anni Igonne would later say, through portraits of her daughter Bert Morisot created a bridge that connected art with life.

The image of the girl traced nezhnorozovye glowing shades. The artist realistically depicts the sparkles in the children’s eyes, talking about the genuine interest with which the little one plays with her father.
