In 1820 he went to England, where he spent two years. There he became acquainted with John Constable, who enthusiastically awakened Gerichko new forces, inciting him to start, in spite of his own depression, for the second great work “Horse racing in Epsom.” Four horses whirlwind flying over the field of racing, their front and hind legs stretched parallel to the ground.
It creates the impression of extraordinary rapidity, flight. Horses, jockeys are discharged with great care, with some unexpectedness for Gerico dryness. On the contrary, the landscape – a plain covered with green grass with hills on the horizon, a cloudy sky with skylights – is written widely, in general.
It seems that the horses are rushing forward, and the ground is running swiftly under their feet. The bright image of jumping horses, created by Gérico, gained immense popularity, became a kind of classic canon, was repeated countless times, evoking the impression of speed, flight.
