Milles was an outstanding schedule, his line was distinguished by grace and expressiveness. Most of the drawings of the artist belong to the early period of his work, most often they were made with pen and ink. Among them are sketches for future paintings, funny sketches and portraits.
In the 1850s, the artist created a series of drawings on “themes of modern morality”, where he paid particular attention to various aspects of married life. This series includes works such as “Lost Love” and “Couple in Love”. In part, they resemble illustrations for novels. Later, Milles rarely turned to such detailed sketches, preferring to write directly on the canvas.
