The “drum”, crowning the dome of the Florentine cathedral, consists of eight large round windows. The creation of the dome was completed by 1431. The next few years, work was carried out on the installation of stained-glass windows, created according to the drawings of the best Italian artists of the time – Andrea del Castagno, Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti and Paolo Uccello. They prepared full-size cardboards, which served as models for the master-glaziers.
In May 1443, Uccello received money for the “Ascension” cardboard, but subsequently the authorities of Florence preferred the drawing of Tiberti, executed on the same plot. In total, three cartons Uccello was adopted. Up to now, two stained glass windows have been preserved, the work on which Uchchelo took part, – “Resurrection” and “Christmas”. Stained glass, made on the third cardboard of the master – “Annunciation” – was destroyed in 1828. None of the preparatory cartons Uccello has survived.
