Painting by the French painter Nicolas Lancre “Bathers”. The size of the picture is 115 x 95 cm, oil on canvas. The painting was acquired in the Hermitage collection from the collection of the dealer Kloosterman in 1782. The picture “Bathers” also has another name “Summer”.
In his walks outside the city in the suburbs of Paris, Lancre made sketches of those life scenes that amazed him with their originality, sketches of everything that the artist found entertaining.
In the future, these drawings by the artist served as the basis for plots for his paintings, in which Lancre during his not so long work portrayed a significant number of genre scenes, village weddings, balls, and fairs. Lancre also wrote portraits of his contemporaries and paintings of historical and mythological subjects.
